The Hobbit – A Review of the Film

The Hobbit scores with its sharp dialogues, dramatic costumes, spellbinding special effects, awesome music, magnificent scenery and panoramic landscapes. It is definitely a breathtaking visual journey adapted from the original story of The Hobbit which is nothing more than a short story.

But this stylishly appealing treat for the eyes gets weighed down unnecessarily by a multitude of characters from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, left out details (that were in the book but not in the movie adaptation) and addition of excessive amplifications and side stories that are possibly rewritten (and thus don’t fit in with the original story). Many of the dramatic scenes were reduced to cartoon caricatures and the portrayal of many of the important characters does not do justice to Tolkien’s original story.

However, if you haven’t read the book yet but have wandered inside the movie theaters for popcorn entertainment, this is one big, fat, family entertainer that will be lapped up by your kids – the movie’s target audience.
